Ah, well if it isn't our old friend Mario. Mario is basically an all-across medium stat character in this game. While Mario has very few impressive abilities, he also lacks many weaknesses that his opponents may exploit. While he's commonly considered the character for normal players of the game, he can be quite deadly when weilded by the hand's of a true master. Mario can use his fire ball (B) special to hit targets from a pretty far distance, and then finish his enemies into the air with his whirlwind (vB) attack. And then just to taunt them, he can do his signature jump with his final special move (^B). Mario's biggest strength of all, however, lies in his powerful throwing moves.

Yoshi, though having only an average speed, makes up for it with a powerful offense. Because Yoshi lacks a third jump special, his midair jump is the best in the entire game. The only problem lies in his lacking any recovery moves. To easily conquer this dino foe, just hit him hard after he's used his double-jump. Yoshi is great for begginers due to him being at least somewhat heavy. He's also one of the strongest physical attackers in the game, second only to Donkey Kong. Yoshi can also throw eggs (^B) to hit sky-borne targets, and also turn his enemies into eggs (B)! This technique is best used when Yoshi is next to a cliff whilst facing away from it. If you're lucky, the opponent-filled egg will fall to its doom; a true proof to how stupid your opponent really is.

Link is another one of those medium-weight, tough-attack power characters. Although, even though he has powerful attacks, he's very slow and his special moves all seem rather sluggish as well. Link's strongest power comes from his midair down-A strike as well as his up-A strike. These two moves are Link players' key to victory. The best way to combat a Link player is to dodge his attacks and strike while he's recovering. Link's recovery move (^B) is a very effective way of clearing a crowed of opponents surrounding you, thus giving you a great oppurtunity to flee. His Boomerang (B) and Bomb (vB) attacks are also great moves to help opponents keep their distance, giving you time to rush in and deliver a finishing blow.

Alright, you have to admit: the reason you actually came to this site was due to this little guy's incredible popularity. Pikachu is the fastest character in the entire game. However, while this may seem like a great plus, it comes at a price of hm being incredibly light as well. Most of Pikachu's physical attacks are also a bit weak, but he makes up with it with his Thunder (vB) and throwing attacks, both of which are very effective against all types of opponents. Pikachu's Quick Attack (^B) is also one of the best recovery moves in the game, as long as you know how to use it properly. Pikachu's main weakness, however, is his inability to send his opponents flying with physical strikes due to having a light body. The best way to defeat your opponents as Pikachu is building up their damage using quick physical attacks and Thundershocks (B) and then finishing them off with a throw or Thunder. Now if only Pikachu could use Iron Tail...

Fox is, simply put, quite a speedy character. Though he can't move like Pikachu can, he has the ability to execute much stronger attacks than the rodent. Fox is a mid-strength, mid-weight character, whose physical attacks and Blaster (B) are powerful and great for weakening foes. Fox's reflector attack (vB) can deflect projectiles (such as Samus's energy blast, Mario's fireballs, and Pikachu's Thundershocks) back at the user, and his Fire Fox (^B) recovering ability can not only save you from a bind, but also dish out some great damage as well. Fox is best used by those who are hands-on fighters. His main weakness, though, is the Fire Fox, which can be easy to interupt and ultimately stopped, forcing Fox to fall to his death. And because Fox falls faster than most characters, there's nothing you can do.

While Donkey Kong is the most powerful character in Super Smash Bros, he also happens to be the heaviest; thus creating a good-bad situation. DK's best skills is his wind-up strong punch special (B) which can easily send any foe flying off the edge of the stage. Donkey Kong's recovery spin (^B) and Ground Slam (vB) are both good moves for dealing out quick amounts of damage (if you can pull them off that is). You see, Donkey Kong's main weakness is actually not his speed, but how easy all of his attacks can be interrupted. Moves such as Yoshi's Ground Pund and Pikachu's Thundershock can stop the Kong straight in his tracks. Your best bet for fighting a DK user is to fight his fire with fire and use Yoshi, Mario, or Link.

Kirby is an extremely light character, but he still manages to hold some hard-hitting moves up his arsenal. His stone ability (vB) can knock any foe away if used in the air, as well as give Kirby some great invulnerability to anything but throwing moves. These throwing moves are Kirby's main weakness. Kirby's Final Cutter (^B) recovery move may only serve as a recovery move if the ledge is extremely close. However, Kirby can also "double-jump" five times, so having a recovery move being used as recovery is a bit silly in this case. But wait, there's more: Kirby can also copy his opponent's unique B-move such as Link's boomerang or Mario's fireballs using his suction power (B), plus he gets a cool hat from them as well. Kirby's wide arrangement of abilities makes him the favorite of not only beginners, but pros too.

Samus is yet another speedy character who joins the fray in this bout. Samus, while being a bit light, has a wide range of weak and poweful attacks at her disposal, making her quite a force to be reckoned with. Samus's main strength is her lightning-fast dodge-and-strike techniques, all of which can quickly dish out damage to her opponents. Her screw attack, which also doubles as her recovery (^B), spells trouble for all foes, and her charged shot (B) is not something you want to run into in a dark alley. Coupled with her quick bombs (vB) and long-range grabs, one would think that Samus is far too tough to approach. They key to Samus's defeat, however, is quick, strong moves, such as the one's used in Fox's arsenal.

Okay, so if Pikachu is the reason you came, Jigglypuff is the reason you stayed, right? Jigglypuff is very, very light, and thus extremely easy to knock around. However, Jigglypuff is also the only character, other than Kirby, who can float using multiple jumps. Jiggly's sing attack (^B) can cease opponents' attacks long enough for you to hit them with an ultra-powerful Rest (vB), which is bound to send them flying...if you can time it right, that is. Just make sure not to question why Rest can now kill people. Jigglypuff's throwing moves and physical attacks (including her Jiggly Punch (B)) are your best bet when playing as the cute puffball. To defeat a Jiggly-player with ease, simply sick a power character, such as Link or Donkey Kong, on it. Just remember....avoid close contact with Rest. To unlock this pink menace, just beat 1-Player mode on any difficulty.

Captain Falcon is a powerful, secret caracter with above-average speed and quick, precise, powerful attacks. To unlock this beast of a character, you need to rush to finish 1-Played mode in under 20 minutes. Captain Falcon maintains a decent weight along with that quick speed, making him a true force to be reckoned with. Falcon's most prominent attack is clearly his Falcon Pumch (B) which, if timed correctly, can easily knock out even an only slightly-wounded opponent. Watch out for his other devastating moves: the Falcon Kick (vB) and the Falcon Grab (^B), both of which can seriously wreak havoc. To click this bird's wings, you have to get in a few good, strong power moves before he can unleash the might of Falcon Punch and Falcon Kick.

Luigi, the famous brother of Mario, is both similar and different from his older brother. Though they both have the same speed, power, and weight, Luigi has different physical attacks. In addition to that, his Fireballs (B) defy gravity, not bouncing across the ground like his brother's. Other changes include his tornado move (vB) sucking opponents in, as well as allowing for a devastating blow with a coin jump (^B) if used while touching one of his enemies. Think of it this way: Luigi is essentially Mario with slightly different special moves, but he maintains the same strengths and weaknesses as his brother. To unlock the mustachioed plumber, beat the Target Test with all 8 original characters.

Metal Mario is only playable if you have a cheating device used. I would advise not to though.
Metal is only seen in stage 9 of 1P mode. Just think really slow and heavy Mario. Keep thinking it.

Fighting Polygons are only seen in stage 10 where you have to fight 30 of them. There are a total of 12 polygons, each representing a character and their moves. Polygons are incredibly light and easy to kill. Unfortunatly, they can easily gang up and overwelm you.

The final boss of 1P mode. The Master Hand can't be knocked around so the way to win is to deplete his HP. The bad news is that the Master hand has 300HP and a large arsenal of powerful and deadly attacks. More on the Master Hand is written in the 1P mode section.
