Kanto

The second generation takes place three years after the first, and as such, a lot of changes have occured to the Kanto region, which may be revisted
once you complete the Johto region. For a full list of changes, please continue reading:
- Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres are no longer present in Kanto as they were either caught, or left Kanto three years ago.
- In addition to the legendary bird trio being absent, Mewtwo is missing as well since Cerulean Cave has been closed down. However, it is still possible to find the
Berserker Gene in the water near the cave.
- Many Pokémon that used to be restricted to the Safari Zone are available in the wild. Generation II Pokémon can now be caught in the
wild; Ryhorn can be found in Victory Road, and Kangaskhan can be found in Rock Tunnel.
- The Kanto Gym leaders will now use second Generation pokemon, in addition to first Generation Pokémon.
- Because of a sudden power outage, Lt. Surge's Gym lacks any electricity and thus the door that leads to him is already opened.
- Koga, once the Gym Leader of Fuschia City, has become a member of the Elite Four, leaving his daughter Janine to uphold his place as Gym Leader.
- An active volcano has destroyed nearly all of Cinnabar Island, leaving only a PokéCenter on the island. As there is no longer room for a gym on the island,
Blaine has moved his gym to the Seafoam Islands. Due to this, no Pokémon can be found on the islands.
- Blue, the rival in Generation I, is now the 8th gym leader of Kanto, ruling over Viridian City. What happened to Giovanni? Not even Team Rocket knows, but they're
trying to find him throughout the game.
- Red, the main character in Generation I, serves as the final boss in the game. With his level 81 Pikachu, he awaits challengers in Mt. Silver (Johto). His team also
includes a level 75 Snorlax, a level 77 Blastoise, Charizard, and Venusaur, and a level 73 Espeon.
- Viridian Forest is now only mere shrubbery and stumps.
- Pewter City's museum has been closed down for renovations.
- The Pokémon Center outside of Mt. Moon (Kanto) was removed, forcing players to travel all the way back to Pewter City if they want to refresh
their beloved Pokémon.
- While Bill's house is still located at Cerulean Cape, Bill is out at Goldenrod in Johto, so his grandfather is watching his house in his absence.
- The Cerulean City Bicycle Shop is closed; the owners now reside in Goldenrod City.
- The entrance to a Team Rocket headquarters, once in the basement of the Celadon City Game Corner, has been removed.
- Although most towns, not including Celadon City, remain the same size routes, between cities have been shortened.
- The Pokémon Tower of Lavender Town was remodeled into a Radio Tower, with all graves being moved to the newly-crafted Soul House.
- The Underground Path that once connected Lavender Town to Celadon City has been closed due to vandalism.
- The Dojo Master at the Fighting Dojo has left to go train, and only the Focus Band is left in his absence. If you travel to Mt. Mortar (Johto) and defeat him, he will
reward you by offering up a Tyrogue.
- As the warden is away on vacation, access to the Safari Zone is restricted, although it is possible to enter the unfinished area with a cheating device.
- The Power Plant from Generation I is now used to power the Magnet Train. As such, the Pokémon that used to live in the Plant have left.
- Victory Road was made drastically smaller, removing all trainers and puzzles.
- With the notable exceptions of Cinnabar Island and various Team Rocket hideouts, the overworld themes and battle themes have been remixed.
- The infamous Copycat returns! Once again located in Saffron City, she has moved across town. Her old home was replaced with a Magnet Train Station. She passes
on a free rail pass to the player after her doll is returned. Allegedly this doll is the same one Red exchanged for Mimic (TM31) in Generation I.
- Remeber the Coffee Man? He remembers the protagonist from Generation I, but luckily doesn't try to teach you how to catch Pokémon.
